A Recent Garden Design Project

– Our latest Garden Design in Sevenoaks, Kent gave us our most challenging project to date.  Not only was the garden totally overgrown with trees, brambles and weeds but also on a very steep incline that could be compared to walking up a section of Snowdon!

The first task was to clear the site and then build a structure that was strong enough to hold a series of terraces in place – and this is where Gabions came into their own.  These simple wire cages become stronger and more stable as they are filled up with grey Irish Quartz walling stones and form a great backdrop for plants.  Grey sandstone steps and random paving are used together with red brick walls to complement the house and as a contrast to the grey stone.

The new planting added to each terrace and surrounding seating areas was a mixture of trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs with some repeated plants including variegated standard hollies on each level to create continuity.  The planting will soften the hard lines of the gabion walls once they have become established.

“I am very happy with the professional service provided by Ornellas Garden Designs.  From start to finish Sarah was always helpful and knowledgeable in guiding me through the whole process.  She showed great attention to detail and was always happy to answer questions and come up with ideas and a solution.  My garden looks fantastic and I can’t wait to see it come to fruition in the summer.”
